The NHLA’s Chief Marketing Officer, Natalie Thelen, traveled to Guadalajara, Mexico, from August 13–16 to represent the association at the Tecnomueble trade show. Tecnomueble is Mexico’s largest trade show for the furniture manufacturing sector, which includes exhibitors of machinery, hardware, wood, veneer, and more.

The American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC)’s pavilion, built from U.S. hardwood and thermally modified hardwood, served as an information hub and networking point for visitors. Several U.S. hardwood companies exhibited within the pavilion, providing potential buyers with direct access to exporters. NHLA members who exhibited within the pavilion included Banks Hardwoods, Inc., Beasley Forest Products, Inc., Classic American Hardwoods, Edwards Wood Products, Inc., Hartzell Hardwoods, Inc., Hermitage Hardwood Lumber Sales, Inc., Pike Lumber Co., Inc., Robinson Lumber Company, Rutland Lumber Co., Inc., and Savage Lumber Co., Inc. Additionally, three NHLA members had their own exhibit booths: Baillie Lumber Co., Parton Lumber Co., Inc., and Gutchess Lumber Co., Inc.

Mexico remains a vital market for U.S. hardwood exports. In 2024, combined exports of hardwood lumber, veneer, plywood, flooring, moulding, and millwork surpassed $226 million. By the end of last year, Mexico ranked as the fourth-largest export destination for U.S. hardwood products, with moulding, Red Oak, and Yellow Poplar lumber driving demand. As Mexico imports nearly 30% of its wood needs, U.S. suppliers play an essential role in meeting demand. However, recent tariffs implemented by the Trump administration are already creating challenges for U.S. exporters, and the market outlook remains fluid.

NHLA’s presence at Tecnomueble underscored the Association’s commitment to supporting AHEC and its members in expanding international sales and strengthening trade relationships in priority markets. By showcasing U.S. hardwood products and creating opportunities for members to connect directly with buyers, AHEC continues to highlight the value, quality, and sustainability of American hardwoods. Despite challenges such as shifting trade policies and tariffs, Mexico remains a promising and strategically important market, and NHLA, through its support of AHEC, will remain actively engaged in helping members navigate changes while capitalizing on export opportunities.
