Hardwood Projects Earn Grants in 2024 Wood Innovations Program
On May 14th, Deputy Secretary of Agriculture Xochitl Torres Small announced that the Department of Agriculture’s Forest Service is investing nearly $74 million to spark innovation, create new markets for wood products and renewable wood energy from sustainably sourced wood, and increase the capacity of wood processing facilities as part of President Biden’s Investing in America agenda.
Made possible in part by President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the Inflation Reduction Act – the largest climate investment in history — these investments fund 171 project proposals across 41 States and American Samoa, and directly support forest health and the wood products economy.
Funded proposals foster innovation and create new markets for wood products and energy, which are critical to the sustainable management of federal, tribal, state, and privately managed lands. They also support wood energy projects and strengthen wood products processing and manufacturing capacity. Of the 171 projects, 77 projects will directly support disadvantaged communities, usually rural communities. Ten projects are for Tribes or Tribal partner projects.
This year, there are 25+ hardwood recipients! Congratulations to all the recipients. To see a list of grants awarded to hardwood companies click here.
