The Opportunity
Thompson Appalachian Hardwoods is seeking a Saw Filer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you’ll ensure our saws remain sharp, well-maintained, and ready for operation, contributing to the production of high-quality products. This full-time, permanent role offers a Monday-Friday schedule at our Huntland, TN, location. If you’re skilled, detail-oriented, and enjoy a hands-on environment, this opportunity is for you.
Key Responsibilities
• Sharpen, maintain, and repair circular and band saw blades.
• Operate and maintain filing room equipment, including grinders, sharpeners, and tensioners.
• Inspect saw blades for defects and ensure they meet quality standards.
• Follow safety protocols to maintain a safe working environment.
• Diagnose and resolve issues with saw blades and related equipment.
• Manage saw blade inventory to ensure tools and supplies are available.
• Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records.
• Collaborate with mill operators and team members to optimize production processes.
• Minimum 2 years as a sawfiler or in a similar role (preferably in a sawmill).
• Proficiency with filing room equipment and saw blade maintenance techniques.
• Exceptional attention to detail and work precision.
• Physical stamina to work in demanding conditions, including standing for long periods, lifting heavy objects, and handling sharp tools safely.
• Strong troubleshooting skills and adaptability.
• Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
Compensation:
• Minimum starting pay: $25/hour + bonus opportunities (negotiable based on experience).
• Hourly wage varies by position and shift.
