The NHLA is a membership-based international trade association that serves as the voice of the hardwood industry, representing timber producers, sawmills, lumber graders, wood product manufacturers, and countless other professionals engaged in the North American hardwood market.

As your Board Chairman and Vice Chairman, we understand how important it is for our members to hear our voices during these tumultuous times.

The fact that the Chairman is an American citizen and the Vice Chairman is a Canadian citizen underscores our commitment to working together within the North American hardwood industry. We are fortunate not to be forced to take sides in the trade war affecting our industry—because we are both on the same side: the side of the industry. We don’t have to imagine the pain our members are feeling; we are feeling it too.

We are a very resilient industry with deep-rooted cross-border relationships based on respect. As leaders of your association, we commit to advocating for policies that strengthen these ties and protect the future of the hardwood industry.

The actions of our governments are creating instability and uncertainty at a time when we can least afford it. The United States and Canada are not just neighboring plots of land—they are home to hardworking, patriotic people who simply want to provide a better life for their families. We are neighbors who rely on each other for products and services, and we must act quickly to restore stability to both of our countries.

Your association is working hard to ensure our voices are heard so that, together, we can help grow and stabilize our industry.

Sincerely,

Bucky Pescaglia
