NHLA serves as an advocate of the hardwood industry and promotes to ensure the viability of the industry for future generations.

The National Hardwood Lumber Association is a founder and partner of the Hardwood Federation. The Hardwood Federation was created in April 2004, and is the largest forest products industry association in the United States representing over 14,000 business and one million hardwood families. The Federation was created to present a strong voice for the hardwood industry on legislative issues impacting the hardwood communities.

NHLA's government relations program, along with other hardwood associations, develops policy positions that the Federation pursues to ensure laws and regulations are favorable to hardwood interests, provides education to lawmakers and policy makers on the benefits of the hardwood industry and raises money to support candidates who are industry friendly.
